An avid cyclist from an early age, Rene enjoys navigating new trails in the great outdoors. In addition to cycling, Rene goes the distance via road races. Her affinity for adventure knows no bounds. She has hiked the Manoa Falls Trail in Hawaii, photographed all five towns in the Cinque Terre, and traversed the Path of the Gods along the Amalfi Coast. Most recently, she visited over two dozen European cities and climbed every staircase in Venice and on the Amalfi Coast of Italy.
She believes more needs to be done to ensure the safety of all cyclists, runners, pedestrians, and persons with disabilities everyday on the road.
In her professional career, she is a pediatric occupational therapist. As an adjunct professor she developed and taught a graduate-level occupational therapy course. She is the founder of The Red Balloon, her blog which chronicles her travel and adventures in Boston and beyond.
